One senior job ad, start to finish
By Hillel Lithwick, founder of ApexHunt · Melbourne
Nobody should take a job-search tool on its own word. So this page shows one complete run, unedited: a real Telstra job ad, a senior marketing candidate's CV, and everything ApexHunt produced from them, including a rewrite the product scored below her original and said so, every check it ran on its own output, and what three reviewers found in the first version of this run before it was published.
The candidate is synthetic. We wrote Danielle Okafor's CV ourselves so we could publish it in full, which no real user's CV allows. It was written on 15 September to fit this ad for an advertising image, and it scored 88 then too, so treat the 88% as what a strong fit looks like, not as a typical result: the median across our published dataset of senior applications is 72. The ad is real, quoted as Telstra published it. Every output below is exactly what the live product returned on 27 September 2026, run through the same routes a user's browser calls, with the CV parsed into a profile first the way a new account does it. Nothing was edited, reordered or improved.

2. The match report (30 seconds)
The first thing a user sees after pasting an ad. One reading of the ad against the CV, with the ad's own words quoted in each gap so the candidate can check them herself.
estimate
Level read: Danielle's current title of Head of Marketing and seven years in senior marketing leadership roles place her at the same level as this Head of Industry Marketing position.
What to notice: every strength is a fact from her CV restated, not a compliment. Each gap opens with a phrase quoted from the ad. What the report does not do, and a recruiter who read it pointed out, is ask the first question a hiring manager would: the role reports to a Head of Marketing, and she already is one. It calls that a lateral move and leaves it there.
3. The tailored CV (93 seconds to write, 37 more to score)
ApexHunt rewrote her CV for this ad, then scored her original and the rewrite against the same frozen rubric extracted from the ad. Here is the part most tools would not show you.
Original CV against this ad: 89. Tailored CV: 83 (read twice: 83 and 83).
Her original scored higher, on two independent reads. The product told her so and advised using the original for this application. It did not hide the number, round it, or call the rewrite an improvement.
Why it went that way: her original CV was already written around the things this ad asks for, so the rewrite had little to add. That matches our published tailoring data, where CVs that already fit the role well gain little and one in four rewrites score lower. The rewrite itself, unedited:

Two of her 4 roles shown; the rewrite carries all 4.
The checks that ran on that rewrite
Every sentence of a tailored CV is checked against the candidate's own material before she sees it. In this run 20 claims matched her CV, 0 did not, and 0 were flagged for her to check. Shown here exactly as the product showed them beside the draft:
Nothing was flagged on this rewrite.
Read each flag against the quoted CV line. A flag is a question, not a verdict: the writing model can put a tool or a figure into a CV that the candidate never wrote, and these checks do not trust the writing model. A candidate who sent a rewrite unread could send a CV with an invented tool in it. That is the reason the checks exist, and the reason we show them.
4. The cover letter (87 seconds)
Three variants are written; the product recommends one. This is the recommended variant, in full, as returned. The sign-off is added when the letter is downloaded.
Variant: Pipeline Operator
Telstra Enterprise operates at the scale where industry marketing has to produce measurable commercial results, not just brand presence. That is the work I have been doing at Meridian Cloud for more than five years, leading industry marketing programs across financial services, government and healthcare for a 600-person managed services business, with marketing-sourced pipeline growing from $18M to $61M a year over three years.
The most directly relevant part of my current role is the combination of industry segmentation and pipeline accountability. I built separate programs for each vertical, each with its own proposition, content and events calendar. The financial services program alone produced 38% of enterprise new-logo pipeline in FY25. Alongside that, I introduced account-based marketing across the top 120 accounts with the enterprise sales team, combining shared account plans, quarterly reviews with sales directors, and a full-funnel measurement model covering influenced pipeline and win rates. I present these results to the executive team monthly and to the board twice a year, so the commercial accountability is real, not theoretical.
Leading the team is the other half of the brief. I lead 14 people across brand, demand generation, content, field marketing and marketing operations. I hired nine of them and promoted three into leadership roles. I also manage a $4.2M budget with quarterly reallocation against pipeline performance. Before Meridian Cloud, I led a team of eight at Vantage Networks, a business connectivity provider, where I built the demand generation engine from scratch, ran channel and partner marketing, and owned customer marketing for the enterprise base, supporting a 94% enterprise renewal rate.
This kind of role needs to move quickly from strategy to execution while keeping sales leadership and the broader executive group aligned around shared commercial priorities. My reading of the year-one task is less about inventing new programs and more about sharpening the connection between industry marketing investment and pipeline contribution, then building the disciplines that make that connection visible and repeatable. At Meridian Cloud, that integration took roughly 18 months to become reliable. The platforms I use, Salesforce, Marketo and 6sense, are the same stack that supports that kind of full-funnel measurement.
I would like to discuss how Telstra Enterprise is currently measuring the contribution of industry marketing to pipeline, and where you see the biggest opportunity to sharpen that in FY27.
The checks on the letter
The same claim check runs on each variant against her CV, plus a check for a financial year that has already ended and for a years figure that contradicts her CV's own:
- Pipeline Operator: 9 claims matched, 0 not found in her CV, 0 flagged to check.
- Formal: 9 claims matched, 0 not found in her CV, 1 flagged to check.
- Direct: 4 claims matched, 0 not found in her CV, 0 flagged to check.
Formal
The letter's own five quality checks, as the product reported them:
- Open · Industry connection: no same-trade connection to telecommunications evidenced in candidate data; Vantage Networks is a business connectivity provider, which is adjacent but does not place Danielle in the same telco trade as Telstra
- OK · Function grounding: industry marketing ('built industry-led marketing programs for financial services, government and healthcare'), pipeline accountability ('marketing-sourced pipeline grew from $18M to $61M'), ABM ('introduced account-based marketing across the top 120 accounts with the enterprise sales team'), team leadership ('lead a team of 14'), budget management ('run the marketing budget of $4.2M'), executive reporting ('present marketing performance to the executive team monthly and to the board twice a year'), partner marketing ('ran channel and partner marketing with the company's carrier and systems-integrator partners'), demand generation ('built the demand generation engine from scratch') | coverage: 7 of 9 JD owned functions answered; matrix organisation experience and broader Enterprise Marketing cultural leadership have no verbatim source phrases and are excluded
- OK · Employer diagnosis: paragraph 4 combines two JD facts (pipeline accountability mandate plus pace and execution discipline) into the observation that year-one work is less about inventing programs and more about making the connection between industry investment and pipeline contribution visible and repeatable, a judgement the employer could reasonably contest
- OK · Thesis: 'That is the work I have been doing at Meridian Cloud for more than five years, leading industry marketing programs across financial services, government and healthcare for a 600-person managed services business, with marketing-sourced pipeline growing from $18M to $61M a year over three years.'
- OK · Close: 'I would welcome a direct conversation about how Telstra Enterprise is currently measuring the contribution of industry marketing to pipeline, and where you see the biggest opportunity to sharpen that in FY27.' -> names the specific employer problem of measuring and improving industry marketing pipeline contribution in FY27
5. What three reviewers found in the first run, and what changed
Before this page went out we had it read by three people playing three parts: a recruiter, a senior candidate deciding whether to trust the tool with her own CV, and a sceptic checking every claim against the raw data. They read the first version of this run, which was live for about ninety minutes on 27 September 2026. What they found, in the product, not the page:
- The first run's rewrite listed two tools she had never used, Segment and Opera, and the checks flagged both (3 flags in all). The page called them the writing model's mistakes. The sceptic traced them further back: our own preservation step, which lists the named systems in a CV so the rewrite keeps them, had read “marketing operations” as Opera and “customer segments” as Segment, then told the writing model both were required. The product injected the tools it later caught. Fixed: that step now matches whole words, case-sensitively.
- The first run's rewrite said “fourteen years” against a CV that says sixteen, which moved her from meeting the ad's 15-year bar to missing it. The CV check caught it. 2 of the three letters repeated it and the letter check passed them, because durations were excluded from the numeric check by design. Fixed: a stated years figure that contradicts the CV's own stated years is now flagged on letters and CVs alike.
- 2 of three first-run letters closed on targets for FY26, in September 2026, when FY26 had ended in June. Fixed: the letter writer is told the current Australian financial year, and a forward-looking sentence that names an ended one is flagged.
- The first run seeded her CV as raw text, skipping the parse a new account performs, and the rewrite dropped her degree (the education list came back empty) and printed the contact line as “danielle.okafor@example.com · · · Sydney”. Fixed on both sides: the run now parses the CV first, the way a signup does; and for anyone whose profile holds no structured education, the degree lines are taken from the CV text, and the contact line is cleaned and filled from the CV header.
- The letter check flagged “ABM” as a tool not in her CV, which writes it out as account-based marketing. Fixed: the acronym is accepted.
What the reviewers found that is not fixed, and still shows in the run above:
- The rewrite drops her bullet about partnering with Sales, Product and Customer Success on go-to-market, the very evidence the match report's own advice says to use against the matrix gap. The checks test what a rewrite adds, not what it removes.
- The report credits her connectivity-provider years as sector experience for Telstra; the letter's own quality check calls that no same-trade connection. Two surfaces, two readings of one fact.
- Neither the report nor the letters raise the reporting line.
What this run shows, and what it does not
It shows the product reading a senior ad and quoting it back rather than inventing requirements, telling the candidate the truth about her own rewrite, and flagging what it could not find in her CV. Those behaviours are the whole point. A tool that always says the rewrite improved things is not measuring anything, and a tool that never shows its own errors is asking you to trust it.
It does not show a typical score. Danielle was written to fit this ad. It does not show the clarifying questions a real first run asks before writing, because this run skipped them to keep the page short. And it is one run: the same inputs scored again move a few points, which is why the product reads a score twice before it calls a rewrite weaker.
What it costs: the free check on the landing page needs no account. A free account adds the match report on any ad, and your first tailored CV and first cover letter in full. Your match score and full gap analysis on every role, plus your first tailored CV rewrite and cover letter in full, no credit card needed. After that each prepared application is A$15, or Pro at A$39/mo for up to 6 a month plus role prioritisation.
