ApexHunt vs Jobscan vs Teal for senior Australian roles
By Hillel Lithwick, founder of ApexHunt · Melbourne
These three tools are often compared, but they make different design choices and are good at different jobs. This page is written by ApexHunt's founder, so read it knowing that; the aim is to be accurate enough that you can pick the right tool even if it is not ours.
Before the comparison, the quickest way to judge any of the three is on your own CV. This is ApexHunt's check, free and without an account:
The check runs in your browser. We never post or share your CV.
The three design choices
| Tool | Built around | Strongest for |
|---|---|---|
| Jobscan | Keyword overlap between your resume and the job description, expressed as a match rate. | A fast check that the ad's screening terms appear in your document. Long-established, US-centred. |
| Teal | An all-in-one workspace: job tracker, resume builder and application pipeline. | Staying organised across many applications. The tailoring itself remains largely your work. |
| ApexHunt | Whether your CV evidences the specific role's requirements, scored conservatively against the real ad. | Senior Australian roles, where P&L scope, team scale and sector wording decide the read. |
Where we differ on principle: there is no universal ATS score
A keyword match rate is a real signal, and Jobscan built a durable product on it. Our view, stated plainly on every page we publish, is that it is a baseline rather than a verdict: every employer runs different software with different settings, so no tool can honestly promise "pass the ATS". A high keyword overlap can also reward stuffing terms the CV does not evidence, which fails the moment a human reads it. ApexHunt therefore scores coverage and evidence: two independent assessments must agree before an ATS term counts as matched, requirement disagreements resolve downward, and the gap analysis names what is genuinely missing rather than which words to sprinkle.
Where the others are genuinely better
Honesty cuts both ways. If your main problem is volume management across dozens of applications, Teal's tracker and browser workflow are more developed than ours: we keep a simple application tracker, not a full pipeline product. If you want a quick keyword-rate check with years of market history behind it, Jobscan is the established name. And both serve the US market's resume conventions more deeply than we try to.
Where ApexHunt is deliberately different
Everything we publish is measured on real senior Australian applications: 212 scored ads, 1,053 documented gaps, and 36 before/after rewrite scores including the one in four that got worse, published on purpose. The free tier includes the parts most tools gate: match scoring and gap analysis on every role, your first tailored rewrite and first cover letter in full, and daily alerts scored against your actual CV. We are newer and smaller than either competitor, with fewer independent reviews; what we can show instead is the method and the published data behind it.
The practical answer
Pick by your bottleneck. Drowning in applications: Teal. Wanting a quick keyword sanity check: Jobscan. Trying to work out whether your CV proves a specific senior Australian role, and what to fix if it does not: that is the job ApexHunt was built for, and the check is free.
If your question is more specific than "which tool", three guides answer it directly: match your CV to a job description and see why it under-scores, assess your fit for director roles, and reframe transferable experience for a career change.

Common questions
Is ApexHunt an ATS checker?
Partly, and deliberately not fully: keyword coverage is checked as a baseline, but the score that matters is whether your evidence proves the role. No honest tool can promise to "pass the ATS", because there is no single ATS to pass.
Can I use these tools together?
Yes. They solve different problems, and using Teal to organise while ApexHunt scores the fit is a perfectly sensible setup.
What does ApexHunt cost?
The core diagnosis is free: scoring, gap analysis, first rewrite and first letter. Unlimited writing starts at A$39/month. For Jobscan and Teal's current pricing, check their own pages; we do not quote competitors' prices here because they change.
